night out on the town

our sweet friends at the hospital invited us to join them for a nice night of swimming and badminton. afraid to contract typhoid or hepatitis a, i opted out on the swim but the badminton proved to be more challenging than i thought. it made for a great work out but then again it's hard to gauge a work out when an innocent step out the front door leaves you dripping sweat from every crevice.

after our activities, the nurses took us to one of their favorite places for some authentic tainan food. when we pulled up, it only took us a few seconds before we noticed this hair raising detail about the restaurant staff... look closely.

we started off our meal with a nice appetizer. only after a week of searching i found a salad! rotten egg salad.

they decided to go easy on us after that and ordered a traditional tainan dinner of noodles and pork. i scarfed it down as it was the only thing i considered to be edible since i've arrived.

after dinner we looked at some of the other dishes they offer at the restaurant. duck head, duck spine, duck heart, pig ear, and rotten egg bricks for anyone who wishes to opt out on the salad and go straight for the good stuff.

the night ended with a wonderful taiwan dessert called shwa-bing. a delicious medley of in season fruits topped with sweetened condensed milk over a bed of shaved ice. jim didn't try to mask his emotions on this one.
